When launching the rainbow version of our Flipping Out clock, we knew we wanted it to be part of something bigger. That’s why we decided to partner up with Rainbow Railroad, a nonprofit association that helps LGBTQI+ people facing persecution.
Let us tell you more about this organization.
Rainbow Railroad was founded in 2006 in Canada by a group of LGBTQI+ activists and human rights defenders. Its name was inspired by the Underground Railroad, used by the African-American slaves to escape to free states.
Since its creation, it has been helping out people facing persecutions due to their gender identity, sexual orientation or sex characteristics. In a time when there are more displaced LGBTQI+ people than ever before, Rainbow Railroad plays a key role in keeping these individuals safe and away from state-enabled transphobia and homophobia. As for today, they helped more than 3,100 people from 38 countries around the world finding safety through emergency relocation and other form of assistance.
Its initiative received great media recognition, including in Time magazine in 2019 and in Gay Times in 2021. In 2018, it received an award from the University of Toronto for its work helping LGBTQI+ refugees. They received the charitable status in Canada in 2013 and in the United States in 2015.
As stated previously, we couldn’t imagine launching a rainbow clock without doing anything for the LGBTQI+ people.
So for every Rainbow Flipping Out sold on the website, we will be donating 5$ to Rainbow Railroad, as a way to support the organization and allow them to keeping up with their tremendous and so important work.
