The Weight of Color: Introducing the Swirl Collection

From our Utrecht studio to your home—exploring the intersection of heavy soda-lime glass and organic mineral pigment.

At Cloudnola, we believe a vase should be as much a sculpture as it is a vessel. Our latest release, the Swirl Collection, was born from a desire to move away from the "disposable" aesthetic of modern decor and return to something more substantial.

Designed in Utrecht, Mouthblown by Artisans

The journey of the Swirl began in our Utrecht design studio. We wanted to capture the fluid motion of ink in water—a moment of perfect, organic chaos. To achieve this, we partnered with glass artisans who specialize in traditional mouthblowing techniques.

This isn't thin, fragile glass. Each set is crafted from 5mm thick soda-lime glass, bringing the total weight of the two-piece collection to a staggering 4.8 lbs. When you hold a Swirl vase, you feel the quality of the material before you even notice the color.

The Alchemy of Mineral Pigments

The "Swirl" isn't painted on; it is a live mineral pigment introduced during the blowing process.

The Wasabi & Plum Set: A study in contrast. Deep, moody Iris Plum glass is electrified by ribbons of neon Wasabi Green. It’s designed for spaces that embrace "Newstalgia"—mixing old-world weight with futuristic color.

The Misty Rose & Matcha Set: For the minimalist. Soft Peach tones meet the earthy, architectural glow of Matcha Green. This set is designed to catch the "Blue Hour" light, turning a simple shelf into a focal point.

No Two Are Identical

Because the mineral ribbons are introduced by hand, the pattern of every single vase is unique. Your set is Batch 01—the very first run of this new silhouette. Whether you style them together as a nested pair or split them across a room to create a visual "thread," the Swirl Collection is designed to be a permanent fixture in your home.

Styling the Swirl: 3 Designer Tips

  1. The "Single Branch" Rule: Because the glass is so heavy (5mm thick), these vases can support top-heavy architectural branches or single, tall blooms without tipping.

  2. Backlighting: Place the Plum/Wasabi set near a warm lamp. The deep purple glass acts as a filter, making the green mineral swirls "glow" from within.

  3. The Nested Pair: Don't be afraid to overlap them. The transparency of the Peach glass allows the Matcha green of the smaller vase to create a third, hidden color where they meet.
